Your journey has been a long time in the making. It can an exciting time, but it also comes with complications and a new set of concerns. You’ll, be faced with many different opinions, have questions, and may have to choose between two seemingly equal pathways. As an individual, your goals and motivations are constantly changing, and you find yourself in a continuous state of personal repair and regrowth. We define financial independence as the phase in your life where you may choose to work for the social, health, and structural benefits, but are not required to work based on financial need. The journey towards your independence could have come naturally or maybe it felt like a constant struggle. Now that you’re here and your accumulation years are behind you, a new journey is ahead as you can work to bring your portfolio, your financial plan, and your mindset fully into your independence.
A deliberate focus on fundamentals and logistics will be the epicenter of your independence plan. The timing of income and tax consequences, including planning for withholding tax, and portfolio longevity, are key focuses. Your independence plan will give you confidence in your options for a sustainable income, help to shift your mindset from employment income to portfolio income, and will reassure you with regular reviews and cost transparency.
Your survivor plan emphasises the process of working through significant life changes through three distinct phases. We start with estate issues like transfers to beneficiaries, transition to income planning with cash flow planning, and then work towards a sustainability focus with emphasis on tax efficiency and estate goals. Your personal concerns and your loved one’s wishes are kept at the forefront of every recommendation. Together, we build a plan of dignity and respect for your personal regrowth and the love that you shared.
An effective succession plan is one where the communication remains strong and positive with everyone involved, most specifically your family. Your personal values and equivalization are discussed and balanced, while structure and formality are built into your ideal succession. A review of tax consequences and income are integrated through each step, so you can feel confident making decisions that maintain the integrity of the business you are working to preserve.
Inviting professional financial planning into your life drives a movement in the way you understand your finances while our processes, principal-based philosophy, and positive energy redefines what it means to have a financial plan. And with this clearer perspective, you’ll be in a better position to adapt to any challenges or obstacles that may come into your life.
Your financial plan will be developed over a series of one-on-one meetings and builds into regular scheduled planning updates and portfolio reviews. Once you receive our complimentary introductory kit and book a discovery meeting, your view on what it means to have a financial plan will begin to evolve.
In 2015, our office switched to a fee-based business model to reflect a higher degree of transparency for our clients, while adding more flexibility in services. We know it can be a difficult decision to start planning for the future and to find the right advisor to help you get there. That is why the first few meetings are “at our expense” as we get to know you and your financial needs.
A financial plan (base plan + cash flow plan + retirement plan) can initially take between 5 and 8 hours to develop (reviews take less time). More comprehensive financial plans that included tax and estate planning can take up to 20 hours, depending on the complexity.
Our fee-based planning engagements are billed out at $432.49 per hour and are updated on a tri-annual basis, or as-needed. For clients with assets under management, the financial plans are compensated already through the AUM fee engagement and these clients will not be billed directly for a financial plan unless the planning work they request is well beyond the scope of AUM fee engagement (see our fee-based compensation model here). In these situations, the compensation arrangement will be clearly discussed, and a custom engagement agreement will be signed.
